Personal Work: Olivier de Sagazan Digital Painting - Gareth Pugh S/S 18
Recently I've been trying to allow myself some time to draw and paint for fun. Due to how Dysmorphia, YPGTTO, and When has worked out, I haven't had much time or reason to draw. I'm trying my best to give myself some time to do this, because I enjoy it and I don't want to get too rusty. I tried my best to just have fun and not stress or obsess over making everything perfect. I've come to enjoy a more painterly style I think, I don't feel the need to smooth out everything (when I paint for myself at least). I like how it it feels more expressive, to me it's more 'meaningful' in a way.
I decided to do a painting of Olivier de Sagazan again...I really enjoy painting him because of the interesting poses he takes, the way the light shines off of the clay, and the colours of the clay/paints that he uses. In general I find him a very interesting artist to watch. I decided to paint a still from the Gareth Pugh S/S 18 video rather than Transfiguration this time (the frame I painted was around 4:35). I started off with a pen sketch I made a few weeks ago, and built on top of it. I really enjoyed working on this and I hope I can make sure I give myself time to paint and draw for fun in the future.

Personal Work: Portrait Speedpainting w/ Animated Effect
The other day I created a quick speedpainting and I decided to use it to try out some effects from the app, Werble. It's not my favourite drawing, but I enjoyed making it and playing around with some animated effects.

Personal Work: Sunday Speedpainting #8 - Chester Bennington #2 (WIP)
This week I chose to continue working on this painting I started last weekend. My computer was giving me a hard time and wasn't recognising my tablet, so I wasn't able to paint as long as I wanted to originally. Despite this, I focused mostly on the jacket this week and a few other bits on the face and hands.

Personal Work: Sunday Speedpainting #7 - Chester Bennington (WIP)
For this week I wanted to do a painting of Chester Bennington who recently passed away. Linkin Park was the first real band I ever listened to (thanks to my mother who first showed me their music) and that shaped what music I'd be interested in later on in my life. Their music in general (along with many other people) has helped me through some difficult years. I only recently saw Linkin Park live on July 3rd, so I wanted to do a portrait of Chester in honour of his memory. I plan on working on this painting for my weekly speedpaintings until I feel happy with it.

Personal Work: Sunday Speedpainting #6 - Mad Max War Boy
Today for my Sunday Speedpainting I decided to find a reference image and use it to create a character. I used this image and made a quick painting of a War Boy from one of my favourite films - Mad Max: Fury Road.

Personal Work: Sunday Speedpainting #5 - Henry Moore's Upright Internal/External Form
Today I was a bit short on time so I decided to try painting something a bit more abstract. I used a photo I took of Henry Moore's sculpture 'Upright Internal/External Form' as reference and I tried using a few new brushes for this painting.

Personal Work: Sunday Speedpainting #4 (Continued) - Transfiguration VI
For today's speedpainting I decided to continue working on the piece I started a few days ago so I could refine a few portions of the painting so they had more details. I quite like how it turned out, I enjoy drawing pieces by Olivier de Sagazan, I find them interesting and I enjoy the colour schemes which is useful since colour isn't always my strength.

Personal Work: (Sort of) Sunday Speedpainting #4 - Transfiguration VI
I know it's not Sunday today but I had the urge to do some painting so I thought I'd go ahead and do it. I decided to pick another image by Olivier de Sagazan and continue my series of fan art. I spent about 30 minutes on this piece and I will most likely continue to work on it on Sunday since I was enjoying painting it.

Personal Work: Sunday Speedpainting #3
For this week, I wanted to revisit a drawing I did a few years ago. In Sixth Form, I spent some time studying my now favourite artist - Alberto Giacometti... I drew many portraits inspired by his work. So, I looked through a bunch of photos and picked one I wanted to paint using Photoshop and try to imitate the look/feel of the original pen sketch.

Personal Work: Life Drawing & Sunday Speedpainting #2
This week has been very busy, but I managed to do some life drawing and my Sunday Speedpainting. I decided to do a speedpainting of a photo I took while visiting my family in New York. I spent about 20-30 minutes on this painting and I struggle with landscapes and colour sometimes, so I'm quite happy with how this turned out.

Personal Work: Life Drawing & Sunday Speedpainting #1
Since I haven't drawn as much as I normally like to over the last few months, I decided I'm going to try to do about 30 minutes of life drawing a day. I've been using a few different websites such as Line of Action to get back into practice without consuming my entire day since I'm also helping out with YPGTTO.
I also wanted to try doing 'Sunday Speedpaintings' every week. I'm sure I'll end up being too busy at times to do life drawing every single day and I'll probably miss a few Sunday Speedpaintings, but I'm going to try my best to keep up with it over the summer. This first speedpainting is of my dog. I spent about 30-40 minutes on it and I may work on it some more later on.

Personal Work: Golden Retriever Speedpaint
Since it's been a while since I've done any painting or drawing, I wanted to do a quick speedpainting just so I don't get too rusty. I've been a bit homesick lately so I thought it'd be nice to do a painting of my dog back in America.

Adaptation B: Thumbnails #8-12
At the moment for my thumbnails, I'm trying to stay relatively loose and somewhat abstract. To do this I've been just trying to draw forms based on emotions rather than using too many reference photos just yet. While it may not be obvious what things are exactly yet, I think I'm getting some interesting results. At the moment my focus is on getting across certain feelings and emotions rather than drawing too specific of an object or thing. Out of these, there's something about #9 I like and I feel it has more emotion than some of the other thumbnails I've made so far.

Adaptation B: Free Association Drawings
After focusing on the infographic, I wanted to try to get back into my Adaptation B project. I recall being told to try free association writing, which I have done already in my notebooks. I looked back over them and the notes I took after some tutorials and I decided to try out some free association sketching. It may be a bit difficult to see what is going on in them (especially the pen sketch as I could not erase and redo things) but here they are, I think there are some aspects of them that are interesting and I think I may continue doing drawings like this for a little while just to see what happens.

Adaptation A: Frankenstein Monster Thumbnails II
After making the front view of the Frankenstein Monster, I wanted to make a profile view so he could fit in the bathtub. I also put the lightning rod in the tub and I painted some water to see what it would look like. I also decided to make a version of the head where the eyes are closed, so when we first see the head, the viewer knows he is dead. I want his eyes to open after the lightning strikes the tub, and I also made a subtle happy and angry expression. I made this so when he has a name, he is happy...but when the name tag disappears he becomes angry and confused. I think I'll probably cut out the eyes so I can move the eyes around, then I think I can start animating.
Adaptation A: Frankenstein Monster Thumbnails
Here are some thumbnails of the monster itself. I'm quite happy with how he came out, I struggled a little bit with the face but I don't want it to be too realistic, I want it to look like something is slightly off since he is undead. I also separated the body parts and added in some fleshy bits for different parts of my infographic. He still needs a few touch ups, but overall I think he's coming out ok. I have to also make a profile view from the chest up for when he is in the bathtub.

Adaptation A: Lightning Rod Thumbnails
As I was making the metal rod for my infographic, I found it a bit dull since it was essentially just a line that looked metallic. To make it more interesting, I had a better look at some lightning rods to see what other things I could add to it. I think these are far more interesting to look at than my initial idea was, I think my favourites are #36 and #37.
