From Script to Screen: Test Animatic #1 (Without Sound)

I've put together a test animatic so I can play around with the pacing and timing. I feel as though some of the images in the beginning of the animatic might go too quickly, but I'm trying to be aware of the length of the animatic which is already over 2 minutes. Any feedback regarding the timing in my animatic would be very appreciated. Once I get the pacing down I'm going to have a better look at some sounds to add.

From Script to Screen: Updated Storyboard

After the OGR and developing more concept art, I went back and remade some of my storyboard panels, added some more panels and added some colour.

From Script to Screen: Protagonist Concept Art (Rough Sketches)

Here are some rough sketches I've made of my protagonist for my story with different space jumpsuits. I've made the cleaner outline of it in Illustrator but I have yet to block in the colours, so I figured I'd post this in the meantime.

From Script to Screen: Guard Design

After looking at my thumbnails for my guard, I decided to do a cleaner sketch of him then bring him into Adobe Illustrator and remake him like how I made my character colour concepts. I like how he turned out, I think it's clear that he is the bad guy because of the colour and shapes I used. I tried to make him look pretty strong but also chunky to show that he has strength but not much agility.

From Script to Screen - Job Symbols

After my OGR feedback I decided I needed to create some icons for the different jobs the aliens would have. They also have different colour lights above them which will match with a light in the center of the middle circle of the Compass. I'm unsure what my protagonist would be, I'm thinking a scientist because she is clever so the first few icons would probably be her job/colour. The colours are just ideas, I might change them depending on which ones I choose to use.

From Script to Screen: Initial Storyboards

It took me a while to figure my storyboards out due to the action in my story. Luckily I have a bunch of stock reference photos saved and a few books with good poses. I think some thing can be improved such as the punch (I feel like there needs to be more weight behind it), but so far I'm pretty happy with how it came out initially.

From Script to Screen: Script Draft II

While making my storyboards I realized that some things could be sped up, made simpler, or just needed to be changed because it didn't make sense/didn't flow right. Here is my revised script, I tried to strip out some unneeded detail as well so it's fewer pages than my previous draft. It's probably still too detailed, but I can move some things into notes.

From Script to Screen: Rough Guard Thumbnails #57-70

Along with never drawing guns before, this sort of sci-fi armor is new to me so I tried to keep it very basic to start with. I'm trying to keep it looking clean and sleek, but I think some of the thumbnails are a little bit difficult to read but that could just be because I've been looking at them for a while. I think my favourites are #60, #63 and #70.

From Script to Screen: Gun Thumbnails #38-56

I've never drawn guns before but I found making these silhouettes really enjoyable. I eventually decided to try out some more rounded shapes on my guns instead of just straight lines/squares. In my opinion these more rounded shapes match the sci-fi feel more than the blocky ones and would fit into my world more (the space station is a round shape along with the Compass and probably my Protagonists costume depending on how I design it).  Out of these I think #38, #55, and #56 are my favourites. This is because they have a more sci-fi feel in my opinion but also have sharp edges which make them look more sinister (these guns are for the evil guards so it'd make sense that they don't look friendly).

From Script to Screen: Art Direction Influence Map I

When creating my main character I had a few different comics, TV shows and films in mind. I've been looking at a lot of different images for inspiration and reference since I'm not used to this sort of style. Even though I'm nervous about trying something new, I'm finding it fun and I feel like I'm learning a lot. At least I have a lot of things to look at if I get stuck.
