Personal Work: Sunday Speedpainting #3
For this week, I wanted to revisit a drawing I did a few years ago. In Sixth Form, I spent some time studying my now favourite artist - Alberto Giacometti... I drew many portraits inspired by his work. So, I looked through a bunch of photos and picked one I wanted to paint using Photoshop and try to imitate the look/feel of the original pen sketch.

Personal Work: Tate Modern Giacometti Sketches
A few days ago I visited Tate Modern to visit the Giacometti exhibition. I was very excited to see this exhibition because Alberto Giacometti is my favourite artist. It's been quite a while since I drew, so I took the opportunity to sketch some of his work I got to see. I enjoyed being able to be really rough and loose with the sketches (partially due to the lack of seating and because I had family with me so I didn't want to take too long) and I'm happy how a few of them came out. It was nice to get back into drawing since I feel a bit rusty with it.

Autodesk Mudbox: Alberto Giacometti Sculpt Progress II
Today I continued to add some texture to my Alberto Giacometti sculpt. I also moved around some parts of the face to try and make it look more like how I wanted and I began adding some paint to the model.

Autodesk Mudbox: Alberto Giacometti Sculpt (Progress) & Importing Reference Images
Today we continued working on our sculpting. I wanted to continue adding details to make my model look more like it's been made out of clay. I found the pinch tool helpful to make the edges on certain ridges sharper. We also learned how to import files as image planes to use for references while sculpting. I did not like how the image planes worked as much in Mudbox as it does in Maya, but it does the job.

Autodesk Mudbox: Alberto Giacometti Sculpt (Incomplete)
Today we were allowed to sculpt whatever we wanted using what we have learned over the last few weeks. In the past I've done some test models of work by Alberto Giacometti so I decided to try to recreate one of his sculptures. It isn't complete yet, I still want to work on the hair so it isn't symmetrical and I have to add more texture to to the other half and then add some details. However, I'm happy with how it has come out especially when I added some colour to it.

Personal Work: Giacometti Fan Art (with buildup GIF)
I didn't use the actual sculpture as reference, I just used my sketch and just tried going with what I thought looked right. I might return to some of the other sketches, make some new ones (I'd like to do one of his dog sculpture) or even rework some that I made a few years ago in Sixth Form. Maybe I'll even attempt to bring one of them into Maya somehow...I'm not sure how I'd do it but there's no harm in trying it out I suppose.

Giacometti - Pure Presence Exhibition
Yesterday I went into London with my mother for a day out since I won't be around with her for Christmas this year. We visited the National Portrait Gallery so I could see the Pure Presence exhibition about Alberto Giacometti - my favourite artist. I managed to do a few sketches in my book quickly before leaving, I wish there were more places to sit to sketch instead of standing awkwardly with my sketchbook in my arms but I enjoyed it anyway. The exhibition ends on January 10th and I hope to maybe go again if I have time when I come back from America after Christmas. I highly recommend going to see Pure Presence, I thought it was amazing.
