I've started putting together some influence maps for the Invisible Cities project. I was unsure if each city needed to have a separate map or if we just needed to do a few maps of images relating to all the different cities. I decided to make a map including some ideas relating to various cities that I feel more drawn to so far. I'm looking forward to making a few more maps, it really helps me to get ideas flowing.
Hi Deanna, really like your influence map, lots of variation. I suggest try to not just look at cities to reference from. One way to create something really unique is by not looking at someone else's artwork, otherwise their style might come out in your own. Find something physical to sketch ideas from :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback ^_^ that is very true, I have a folder if images I've found so I'll make more influence maps soon and those ones I plan on including more real life objects/structures/stills from games and film vs other artists work...I've also used a few photos of my own/took some photos this weekend
DeleteThe influence maps can be for more than one city this early on, but obviously when you have decided which city to take forward, you can make a final influence map that is purely for the chosen city.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you can explore some more abstract sources as well, which could help give you interesting shapes for the structures or help define the overall mood you are trying to portray.
